Doremus, John C.


b. in New Jersey. Doremus was a lawyer who first began to practice in the Illinois courts in 1838. In 1840 he formed a partnership with Schuyler Strong which lasted only a few months. In that same year, Doremus moved south, studied theology, and became a minister in a Presbyterian church.
